ISRIC
The International Soil Reference and Information Centre (ISRIC) is an independent science-based foundation that provides quality-assessed soil information and knowledge to address pressing global environmental and societal challenges. Rich in content but built on an ageing Drupal system, the website was often difficult to navigate for users. For this reason, ISRIC decided to partner with Twentyseven to refine their CMS, improve the user experience, and give the website a fresh, modern look.

A Partnership Rooted in Human Connection
Our journey began with a strategic session at ISRIC's office in Wageningen to sharpen goals and set clear priorities. From the very beginning, the collaboration between the teams was smooth, with a strong sense of connection and shared understanding. Both sides worked closely throughout the project, making the process efficient and enjoyable.
Working closely with design agency Norday, we created a look and feel that is fresh and modern, while reflecting the credibility and professionalism of the organization. We developed the platform across three intensive, working with a compact team that was perfectly in sync.

Strategic choices for a global reach
To realize an ambitious vision, we had to make strategic technology choices that maximized impact. We selected Umbraco Cloud for its accessibility and seamless management.
"We chose Umbraco to stay efficient... it is one of our partners that is most accessible within a limited budget.” - Martijn, Front-end Developer at Twentyseven
For ISRIC’s communication team, the new system made their work more efficient. It streamlined content uploads, allowed easy page previews, and provided templates that ensure consistency and reduce errors across the site.
"We set up standard templates so they only have to fill in the content, saving time and ensuring everything looks professional without them having to look at it too much.” - Jos, .Net Developer at Twentyseven
Optimized for global access
By utilizing the Vue-based Lux framework for the frontend, we gave ISRIC a platform that is fast, responsive, and ready for future updates. A major point of pride is the platform's global performance:
Low-bandwidth optimization: Engineered to load rapidly for usersin regions where high-speed internet is not a given.
Mobile-first design: Ensuring content is accessible from any device.
Seamless navigation: Providing an intuitive site where users can "dig deeper" into its content.

Reflecting mission and streamlining content
Migrating content from Drupal to Umbraco was a significant effort, accompanied by a new design that better reflects ISRIC’s mission and showcases its activities. The result is an intuitive, modern platform that makes it easier for users to explore ISRIC’s work.
